Madison is the capital of Wisconsin and the county seat of Dane County. It is also home to the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The Madison area had a 2008 estimated population of 561,505, and is one of the fastest-growing in Wisconsin.. Madison's suburb, Middleton, was ranked the "Best Place to Live in America" in 2007 by Money Magazine. Madison is situated between four lakes, the downtown is a narrow band known as The Isthmus. With many lakes, trees and parks, it is truly a beautiful city, where many people who come to school choose to stay. Madison is progressive and vibrant. It gets cold here and many residents have a cheese obsession. With such a great city, acres of lakes, miles and miles of hiking trails; state, county and municipal parks there is an abundance of things to see and do around the area.
